001 Normed Vector is a letterpress chapbook printed at Archetype Press housed at the Hoffmitz Milken Center for Typography at Art Center College of Design. The chapbook's poetry was part of a larger body of work named Normed Vector, which was composed by the poet Gwen Muren for the transdisciplinary course Text, Image, & the Written Word.
Everything in the chapbook was printed and designed using analog processes. The imagery was created in the photographic darkroom, using a cameraless photography technique called chemigram. The imagery was then digitized and translated to photopolymer plates for letterpress printing. The typography is all handset metal and wood type from the Archetype Press collection. The typefaces in use are Check Encoding from American Type Founders, Eurostile from Società Nebiolo, and Lustig Elements from Hamilton Wood Type.
